The town of Toricella lies
on the banks of Lake Trasimeno, the largest lake in central
Italy with a circumference of 45 km (yet it's only 7 meters
deep at its deepest). The combination of lush hills and delightful
swimming areas along the lake's shores makes for a pleasant
stay. The three biggest islands in the lake, La Maggiore,
La Minore and La Polvese, are all easily reached by an efficient
ferry service. There is also an important historical legacy:
the famous battle in 217 B.C. between the Romans and Hannibal's
army ended here, with the Carthaginians taking the victory.
Also nearby are the Fishing Museum, an Educational Park on
the island of La Polvese, and a museum. |
