church of Saint.Maria Infraportas and
the Sassovivo Abbey. The Pierantoni Youth Hostel, located
in the heart of the historical centre of the town, is a splendid
building dating from the 16th century with original cloisters
and a private garden. There are ample common rooms and some
bedrooms are even decorated with original baroque frescoes
depicting mythological subjects. In June and September the
city relives the 17th century through the "Giostra della
Quintana" a horse-back competition and the Segni Barocchi
music festival. More and more schools and students choose
to come to Foligno every year to visit the Experimental Science
Laboratory and nearby Planetary dome which is one of the most
important in Italy. A network of tourist routes connects Foligno
with the Regional Parks of Colfiorito and the Subasio Regional
Park and allows visitors to discover those less well-known
towns of cultural interest, such as Spello, Montefalco, Bevagna,
and Nocera Umbra, that are represented in the paintings and
frescoes of the greatest Umbrian artists. |
